WednesdayThe I-Can't-Chew Cookbook: Delicious Soft Diet Recipes for People with Chewing, Swallowing, and Dry Mouth Disorders (Paperback)
Summary
At first sight the title of the I-Can't-Chew-Cookbook is misleading for folk with MS whose problem is more likely to be swallowing rather than chewing. However on the cover it does state that the book is for "People with Chewing, Swallowing and Dry-Mouth Disorders" - this book is written with a range of diseases in mind, not just MS. 'This cookbook is not aimed at people with MS, but it covers useful territory where few cookbooks have gone before. It discusses how your nutritional needs might be different if you have chewing difficulties, and how you can maximise your enjoyment and best deal with problems. Evaluation Nutrition is of minor importance in many cookbooks but this book has nutrition chapters and every recipe has full Nutritional Analysis. The 5 groups of recipes - Beverages, Soups, Entrees, Vegetables and Desserts are wide ranging in taste and style. All seem to be of excellent taste, easy to prepare and easy to swallow. There is an index but sadly it lacks pictures of the recipes. In this American book the recipes talk of pounds and ounces but the nutritional analysis keeps to the metric measurements. This book meets a real need and is well written, clear and precise. |
