From the Author...
This is my story of recovery from multiple sclerosis. However, the narrative is about so much more -- the search for my inner voice, unfoldment as a human being, my desired, but long forgotten, relationship with the spirit of nature. Multiple sclerosis was a gift from my body -- a wake up call, an ultimatum. My physical nature demanded I listen or I would pay serious consequences. The conveniences of life, needs of others and demands of work had overwhelmed me. I went through the conditioned motions of life as expected by the outer world. In my rush to live and to achieve, I became indifferent to the earth -- the origin of my air, water, food and shelter. I no longer related to the lay of the land, or my relationship to it. I stubbornly ignored my aching body, while focusing on other agendas until my inmost fibers screamed with symptoms of illness. Disconnected from the basic needs of my own existence, I became alienated from my deepest truths and longings. Then I became deadened even to the demands of the outer world as my body turned numb. What I so desperately searched for was a lost and unacknowledged part of myself, my inner nature that resonates with the Creator. The secrets to my salvation always, unknowingly, existed within me and without in nature. Discovery required me to leave my ordinary and familiar life to met an extraordinary challenge. I had to walk an unknown path -- the path of the heart. |
